Lorna Illingworth, Madaleine Sorkin, and Emily Stifler

We are a group of three quirky women who love adventure.  This summer, with support from American Alpine Club grants, we traveled to the Cirque of the Unclimbables in the Northwest Territories of Canada. We were attracted to this area because of its clean granite walls, remote location and its climbing history.  Our goal was the first free ascent of the entire 1963 route of Mount Proboscis.

Our team was well rounded.  With free ascents like the West Face of Yosemite’s Leaning Tower (V 5.13a) and Moonlight Buttress in Zion (V 5.12), Madaleine cranks. Lorna loves the big stone and has climbed El Cap 17 times. Emily has published more than 50 articles and climbed routes from the Black Canyon to the Bugaboos.

We documented our trip with film, audio, photos and writing, and we plan to continue sharing stories and images from the adventure here. We hope to inspire others to push their limits by sharing our story.
